Scrapbooks

Scrapbook; Scrapbooking; Poem; Poetry;

Looking for an unusual, satisfying way to showcase your creative writing talents? If you’re a scrapbooking hobbyist (or you’ve always wanted to become one), why not consider making scrapbook creations chock full of your personal witticisms, poems and stories?

Scrapbooks have taken centre stage on the international scene, in part because they allow “visual” artists to innovatively gather memorabilia (e.g., photos, cards, dried flowers, awards, certificates and other souvenirs) into a highly readable, organised and attractive album.

Because there are no “cut and dry” rules governing scrapbooks, flexibility is a key ingredient, and that’s something most imaginative authors have in abundance!

To get you started on a path to making scrapbooks with a strong literary flavour, three sample ideas are listed below.

Scrapbook Idea No 1: Delightful Baby Books

Do your words and images lend themselves well to entertaining children and their parents? Can you make the most stubborn infant smile with your nonsensical rhymes? Imagine how novel a baby’s scrapbook would be if it were to be interspersed with your age-appropriate and creative haikus, cartoons and tales!

For example, a simple photo of a child having his or her first taste of sugary cake could be accompanied by a silly verse about sweet snacks or a funny short story about a boy or girl whose love of icing led to crazy incidents. Your images could be the ideal way to bring a picture to life!

Scrapbook Idea No 2: Romantic Wedding and Anniversary Books

Every couple yearns for a wedding or anniversary album that is uniquely “theirs”. If you’re creating a scrapbook for a “dynamic duo”, you can pepper it with fittingly romantic musings.

Perhaps you write a great deal of love poetry… or maybe you have a habit of composing haunting song lyrics that your brother puts to music. Whatever your writing forte, you can use your talents to make wedding or anniversary scrapbooks shine with novelty and amore. But beware: once other husbands and wives get wind of your acumen, you’ll likely be in demand!

Scrapbook Idea No 3: Inspirational Memory Books

It’s becoming more fashionable to celebrate those who have passed on with individualised remembrance scrapbooks. These are a particularly sensitive type of album, as they must be approached with the right combination of respect and joy.

If you’re the kind of literary artist who can weave words with tenderness and appreciation, you could be in a position to compose a memorial scrapbook that will be treasured for generations.

For instance, imagine putting together an album filled with patriotic stories, sayings and poetry for a fallen soldier’s family. Such a scrapbook would no doubt touch a plethora of persons… including you, the composer.

AND FINALLY… Consider This:

No matter what kind of scrapbook you decide to tackle, it can be the perfect place to showcase both your writing and artistry gifts. Just make certain that you have a scrapbook theme (it makes putting together all the “pieces” much easier) and an open mind. From there, the proverbial “sky” is truly your only limit!

Extra Hint:

Never forget that people are willing to pay money for unique, professional scrapbooks. If you have a knack for creating ones that are eye-catching and inundated with exceptional, creative works, you may be able to make a side living as both an author AND scrapbooking expert!
